Review : Copying Beethoven(2006)

◦ Director : Agnieszka Holland
◦ Actor and Actress : Ed Harris(Ludwig van Beethoven), Diane Kruger(Anna Holtz)

Before I saw the movie, many people recommended this for the reason that it gives unspeakable touch to spectators. Even my friends said you might regret not having a home theater system installed at your home to see this movie. And after seeing the movie, I totally agree with these friends. This is a music film which focuses on Beethoven’s old age.

The two stars act superbly and especially Diane Kruger’s performance was really impressive. After seeing her main movie – Troy, I have thought that she is just another pretty actress.

This film shows Beethoven’s character in detail. As he loses his hearing, he has become aggressive and shuts himself to other people. He is so stubborn that he can’t control his orchestra and he doesn’t accept that he can’t do a right direction. But after meeting with Anna Holtz, he changes slowly.

When he overcomes the barrier of hearing with Anna’s help, he successfully premieres his masterpiece of ‘The Choral Symphony’. I was moved by the choral part of the symphony.

This gives no special meaning or message. It just gives Beethoven’s magnificent music parade. I liked to fall into his music without any agony (worries) or complicated thoughts. Maybe it is the power of classical music.
