When I first booked the ticket for this movie, I thought it was just another ‘time killing’ romantic comedy. But after 10 to 20 minutes, the story became so serious that I hardly laughed during the entire film.
The story is about Jamie(Jake Gyllenhaal) falling in love with Maggie(Anne Hathaway) who suffers from Parkinson’s disease. Jamie is a playboy and he doesn’t care about anyone else including even his parents. He just flirts all day with the clinic staff to meet his quota of sales. But he, who couldn’t say his strength, is changed to a more confident and trustworthy guy by Maggie’s complement. Those remarks and attitudes toward him were originated from real love. And he finally realizes it.
I missed some comic elements, but Josh(Josh Gad), appeared as Jamie’s brother, made me laugh from time to time. The movie is not clear what the main theme is. But it makes me think about my life, what would be the top priority and what would be my dream. What I really want is not other people’s expectation and social reputation, but is love toward my career and family.
I can’t define the genre of the movie exactly, but it gives a very simple and clear lesson. What you want is what your heart tells you. And no matter how tough it is, you should follow your own willingness.
