Bullying can be seen everywhere. It is easy to call it injustice, but we still fail to correct it. Strong people often push around those who are weaker, whether at school or in society. Recently, there have been hate crimes against female victims. Sometimes, this kind of behavior appears as xenophobia. Nowadays, we can see similar situations in geopolitical relations, where powerful countries pressure, exploit, or retaliate against others for their own benefit.
While watching the movie The Warlords, I was struck by Pang Qingyun, the main character played by Jet Li. He decides to sentence his young soldiers to death for committing war crimes, despite his personal bond with them. He says that the reason he fights is to stop the strong from harassing the weak.
What is justice? People tend to wield power more aggressively as they gain more of it. True courage is the willingness to stop such abuse of power and prevent others from doing the same. That, I believe, is justice. Many people, groups, political parties, and even countries fail to understand this and repeat the same mistake: bullying others.
What we should pursue is the courage to use our power to stand against injustice, protect the vulnerable, and preserve goodwill for as long as possible.
