Avatar

‘Avatar’ already has ranked the 4th of the biggest box office successes worldwide(recorded on the third in January, 2010). Only 3 movies are ahead of Avatar’s total revenue – ‘Titanic’, ‘The Lord of the rings’ and ‘Pirates of the Carribean ; Dead Man’s Chest’.

When I saw the movie first, it’s little bit boring with 2-and-half-hour running time. But other spectator’s responses are tremendously friendly for the movie and it enables some fanatics to revisit theoters. I totally agree with the opinion that 3D effect of ‘Avatar’ is totally different with former 3D movies. And the mega-hit of the movie may ignites 3D boom of videos including TV series, movies and other visual materials.

I think the story of ‘Avatar’ is very similar with Wild West situation. A local tribe is invaded by well-armed humans and they engage in a counterattack. Many people might have recalled scenes in ‘Dances with Wolves’. Anyway, the strong point of the movie is not a plot as well as a story but a visual effect. So it gives reality, especially distance. For example, when the soldiers fire tear gas shells in the attack scenes, I turned my body to the left side to evade those rolling shells. And when spores flied away like dancing, some guys pulled out  their hands to grab those spores.

I don’t know whether the spectacle 3D movie, Avatar, breaks the record, but it already has set the new technological epoch. These various trials and efforts connecting Tech. and culture would be always welcomed.
