Database is getting important in internet world. Recently it is spotlighted as the key of success. A few days ago, there was news about the investigation of police on Google in Korea and France. This problem is because of collecting private information including Wi-Fi location.
Why do they focus on database? Exactly they need systematic information which can be analyzed and used for understanding user’s life pattern. If they know detail information, it’s possible that they can make more interactions such as voice calls, messages and posts. And these interactions are connected to make power for advertisement. And a well-analyzed database can be the source for an intelligent offering tool. The latter is Google’s basic stategy. And Google is not the only player which is interested in personal information.
Facebook is a SNS juggernaut. And they are expanding their service area into commerce and LBS. Facebook has launched new function, Places. This service notifies users where your friends are at. So some people worry that location information can be misused by stalkers, criminals, and etc. Anyway Facebook is trying to strengthen LBS, so they have acquired “hotpotato.com”. Based on the power of SNS and location information, they may get the chance to defeat the competitors such as Foursquare, Gowalla. Superficailly they want to cooperate with other SNS, Facebook already has taken a step into a LBS area.
